DOCX/PDF to Markdown questions
Can depapel convert DOC, DOCX, and PDF files into Markdown?
Yes. Upload a DOC, DOCX, or text-based PDF with Import file, or drag it onto the page, and depapel will return editable Markdown in the same editor. Legacy DOC files also get a self-hosted approximate Word preview until you edit the Markdown or Word settings. Open the direct DOCX download in Microsoft Word for the authoritative layout check.
Does PDF import use OCR or scanned-PDF recognition?
No. PDF import uses extractable text only, with best-effort bold and italic recovery when the PDF exposes usable style fragments. It does not reconstruct arbitrary layout or run OCR. If the PDF is scanned or image-only, depapel may return limited text plus image references instead.
What happens to images during import?
Imported image assets are returned inline as asset references so the editor can keep them with the Markdown without requiring a separate asset host. In the browser, image-bearing imports stay in the current tab only and are not saved into local draft storage.
Does imported Hebrew or RTL text work?
Yes. Hebrew and other RTL text are preserved in the imported Markdown. You can leave direction on Auto or switch the editor preview to RTL when you want to review the layout more explicitly.
Are uploaded DOC, DOCX, or PDF files stored?
No. Import is request-scoped only. depapel does not store the uploaded document after the response completes. PDF import may use temporary helper files during the request, and those files are deleted before the response finishes.
